verb zleh-GAH-reh Rare

Origin: From s- (removal prefix) + legare (to tie), from Latin ligare.

Slegare is the direct opposite of legare (to tie). It can be used literally (slegare il cane = to untie the dog) or figuratively (slegare la fantasia = to free the imagination). It is a regular -are verb. In reflexive form, slegarsi means to free oneself or come undone (il nodo si è slegato = the knot came undone).

Examples

"Ho slegato il cane per farlo correre in giardino."

Natural Translation

I untied the dog to let it run in the garden.

Literal Translation

I untied the dog to-make-it run in garden.
