solo

only; just

adverb SOH-loh Common

Origin: Latin solus (alone)

Also means

alone

Usage Note

Solo is both an adverb meaning 'only/just' — costa solo cinque euro (it costs only five euros) — and an adjective meaning 'alone': sono solo (I'm alone). As an adjective it inflects: sola, soli, sole. In music, the Italian borrowing 'solo' is of course universal. Do not confuse with soltanto, which is a strict synonym of the adverbial sense.

Examples

"Ho solo dieci minuti."

Natural Translation

I only have ten minutes.
