Usage Note
Sottopagato functions mainly as an adjective ('underpaid') but can be used as a noun for a person who is underpaid — i sottopagati ('the underpaid'). It is a compound of sotto ('under') + pagato (past participle of pagare, 'to pay'). The form agrees in gender and number: sottopagata, sottopagati, sottopagate.
