Sponsor is an invariable English loanword — gli sponsor (the sponsors), always masculine: lo sponsor (note lo, not il, because it begins with 's + consonant'). The verb sponsorizzare (to sponsor) is the Italianized form. Common in sports, events, and media: lo sponsor ufficiale (the official sponsor).
