Usage Note

Stesso placed before a noun means 'same' — la stessa cosa (the same thing). Placed after a personal pronoun it adds emphasis: lo faccio io stesso (I'll do it myself). The phrase lo stesso or fa lo stesso means 'it's all the same / it doesn't matter'. Inflects regularly: stessa, stessi, stesse.
