alienation effect
Usage Note
Straniamento is used both in everyday Italian for a feeling of disorientation or alienation, and as a precise literary/theatrical term for Brecht's Verfremdungseffekt (alienation effect), rendered in Italian as effetto di straniamento. The verb is straniare or straniarsi (to feel estranged). Do not confuse with straniero (foreigner).
Examples
