tabacco
tobacco
noun tah-BAHK-koh Rare
Origin: Spanish tabaco, from Taíno
Usage Note
Tabacco is masculine: il tabacco. A tabaccheria (tobacconist's shop) is also where Italians buy stamps, bus tickets, and lottery scratch cards — making it a quintessential neighbourhood stop. The double 'c' keeps the hard 'k' sound before the 'o'.
Examples
"Il medico gli ha consigliato di smettere con il tabacco."
Natural Translation
The doctor advised him to give up tobacco.
