Tamburo is masculine: il tamburo, i tamburi. In music it is a generic drum; for the snare specifically Italians say rullante. In mechanics, tamburo refers to a cylindrical drum (e.g. a brake drum or a washing-machine drum). The idiom a tamburo battente means 'immediately, without delay'.
