Usage Note

Tanto functions as an adverb ('so much, very'), adjective ('many, a lot of'), pronoun, and filler/connector. As a filler, tanto often means 'anyway' or 'it doesn't matter': tanto, ci provo (I'll try anyway). The phrase tanto...quanto means 'as much...as.' Do not confuse with tante (feminine plural) or tanti (masculine plural) when used as adjectives.
