Usage Note

Tecnocrazia is feminine: la tecnocrazia, plural le tecnocrazie. It refers to a system of governance where technical experts hold decision-making power. The corresponding adjective is tecnocratico and the agent noun is tecnocrate (technocrat). The term is used both descriptively and pejoratively in Italian political commentary.
