Utilmente is the adverb from utile (useful) and indicates that something is done in a useful or productive manner. It is more formal than saying in modo utile. It commonly appears in official and bureaucratic prose: impiegare il tempo utilmente (to use one's time productively). In casual speech, Italians tend to prefer paraphrases over long adverbs ending in -mente.
