vai

you go

verb VAH-ee Rare

Also means

go! (imperative)

Usage Note

Vai is the second-person singular present of andare ('to go'), one of the most irregular verbs in Italian — its forms (vado, vai, va, andiamo, andate, vanno) bear little resemblance to the infinitive. It doubles as the informal singular imperative ('go!'). The polite imperative is vada (using the Lei form).

Examples

"Vai a scuola ogni mattina?"

Natural Translation

Do you go to school every morning?
