visitare

visit

verb vee-zee-TAH-reh Less Common

examine

Usage Note

Visitare covers visiting a place or monument, but when a doctor does it, it means 'to examine' a patient, as in il medico mi ha visitato. For visiting a person socially, Italians prefer andare a trovare over visitare.
