Voluto as an adjective means intended, deliberate, or desired: un effetto voluto (an intended effect). It is the past participle of volere (to want). As part of the verb, ho voluto means 'I wanted' (with avere). The expression l'ha fatto apposta, era voluto ('he did it on purpose, it was deliberate') is common in everyday speech.
