Usage Note
Atteso is the past participle of attendere ('to wait for, to expect') used adjectivally. Un evento molto atteso means 'a highly anticipated event'. It should not be confused with aspettato (from aspettare), which is more colloquial; atteso carries a slightly more formal or literary register.
Examples
"Il film era molto atteso dal pubblico."
Natural Translation
The film was eagerly awaited by the audience.
