Avvolgere is an irregular verb; its past participle is avvolto (not avvolguto). It takes avere as auxiliary: ho avvolto il regalo (I wrapped the gift). The reflexive avvolgersi means 'to wrap oneself up' or 'to coil', as in a snake: il serpente si avvolge.
