Usage Note

Caduta is the noun from cadere (to fall). It covers a physical fall (una caduta dalle scale — a fall down the stairs), a drop in values (caduta dei prezzi — drop in prices), and historical collapse (la caduta dell'Impero Romano). It is always feminine. The plural cadute is regular. Do not confuse with cascata (waterfall) or calo (decrease in quantity).
