Usage Note
Cortisone is the Italian term for the steroid hormone and its pharmaceutical forms, used as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant. It is masculine and typically invariable in informal medical speech. The phrase una cura a base di cortisone (a cortisone-based treatment) is common. Do not confuse with cortisolo (cortisol), the closely related endogenous hormone.
