cui

whom

pronoun KOO-ee Common

Origin: from Latin cui

Also means

Usage Note

Cui is the relative pronoun used after a preposition ('to/of/for whom or which'), as in la persona di cui parlo. It is invariable and never directly follows the verb without a preposition; for that role you use che. With the article it also means 'whose' (il cui).

Examples

"La casa in cui vivo è grande."

Natural Translation

The house in which I live is big.

Literal Translation

The house in which I-live is big.
