Usage Note
Cuocere is an irregular verb used for cooking food by heat (boiling, baking, roasting). Its past participle is cotto, which also functions as an adjective meaning 'cooked' or colloquially 'madly in love.' It takes essere or avere as auxiliary depending on usage: transitive constructions take avere (ho cotto la pasta), while intransitive uses take essere (la pasta è cotta).
