Elettrovolt (also written elettronvolt or abbreviated eV) is the unit of energy used in atomic and particle physics, equal to the kinetic energy gained by an electron accelerated through one volt. It is an invariable masculine noun: un elettrovolt, mille elettrovolt. In Italian physics texts the abbreviation eV is standard and preferred over the full form.
