esibire

to exhibit

verb eh-zee-BEE-reh Less Common

Origin: Latin exhibere, 'to hold out, present'

Also means

to display

Usage Note

Esibire means to show or display something (documents, a passport, artworks). The reflexive esibirsi means to perform or show off — si è esibita sul palco (she performed on stage). Uses avere as the auxiliary in non-reflexive use. Do not confuse with esporre (to exhibit/expose), which is more common for gallery displays.

Examples

"Devi esibire il documento all'ingresso."

Natural Translation

You must show the document at the entrance.
