Esternalità is an economics term (plural esternalità — the word is invariable, ending in an accented vowel) for an externality: a cost or benefit that falls on third parties not involved in a transaction. Esternalità negative are negative externalities (e.g., pollution); esternalità positive are positive ones. Outside economics, the word is rarely encountered.
