to screw over, to cheat
Usage Note
Fottere is a vulgar verb — the Italian equivalent of English 'to fuck' — and should be used with awareness of register. Beyond the sexual sense, fottere is commonly used figuratively: mi hanno fottuto ('they screwed me over'). The expression fottitene or me ne fotto ('I don't give a damn') is widespread in informal speech. Takes avere as auxiliary.
Examples
"Me ne fotto di quello che pensano."
