Friulano relates to Friuli, the northeastern Italian region (officially Friuli-Venezia Giulia). As a noun it also denotes a person from Friuli or the Friulian Romance language, which is a recognized minority language in Italy. Note the double usage: il friulano can mean the language itself or a Friulian man.
