Imprevisto as a noun means an unexpected event or hitch: salvo imprevisti ('barring unforeseen circumstances') is a very common Italian phrase. As an adjective it means 'unexpected' or 'unplanned'. The plural imprevisti is commonly used: ci sono stati degli imprevisti (there were some unexpected problems).
