Usage Note
Ingorgo most commonly refers to a traffic jam (ingorgo stradale or ingorgo del traffico), but it also covers any blockage or clog — a pipe, a drain, or even a bottleneck in a process. The plural is ingorghi. It is the everyday word for gridlock; a total standstill is sometimes reinforced as ingorgo totale.
