intenzione
intention
noun een-tehn-TSYOH-neh Less Common
Origin: from Latin intentio
Usage Note
Intenzione is feminine and lives in the fixed phrase avere intenzione di ('to intend to'), always followed by an infinitive. Note Italian uses avere (to have) here, not 'to be', so ho intenzione di partire means 'I intend to leave'.
Examples
"Non avevo intenzione di offenderti."
Natural Translation
I didn't mean to offend you.
Literal Translation
Not had-I intention of to-offend-you.
