miceliale

mycelial

adjective mee-cheh-LYAH-leh Rare

Usage Note

Miceliale is a specialist adjective derived from micelio (mycelium), the thread-like root network of fungi. It is used almost exclusively in mycology and biology: rete miceliale (mycelial network), crescita miceliale (mycelial growth). The seed records it as a noun, but in standard Italian use it functions as an adjective; the lemma form ends in -e (invariable for gender).

Examples

"La rete miceliale si estende nel suolo."

Natural Translation

The mycelial network extends through the soil.
