Usage Note
Muto can describe someone physically unable to speak (sordomuto = deaf-mute) or a person who says nothing in context. Don't confuse with silenzioso (quiet by choice). In cinema, film muto means 'silent film'. The feminine form is muta, plural muti/mute.
