Usage Note

Neon in Italian refers both to the chemical element and, very commonly, to a neon or fluorescent light sign. It is masculine and invariable: il neon, i neon. Insegna al neon means 'neon sign'. The word is also used colloquially for any fluorescent tube lighting.
