Nutrire is an -ire verb without the -isc- infix: nutro, nutri, nutre. It can be used literally (nutrire un bambino = to feed a child) or figuratively (nutrire speranze = to harbour hopes). The reflexive nutrirsi means 'to feed oneself / to subsist on.'
