Usage Note
Oltrepassare means to cross or go past a physical boundary (oltrepassare il confine = to cross the border) or to exceed a limit (oltrepassare il limite = to exceed the limit). It is more emphatic than superare (to surpass) because oltre stresses the idea of going well past something. It is transitive and takes avere as its auxiliary.
