Usage Note
Omosessuale functions as both a noun and an adjective and is invariable in gender — the same form is used for masculine and feminine: un uomo omosessuale, una donna omosessuale. The plural is omosessuali for both genders. It is the neutral, clinical term; in everyday speech Italians may use gay (invariable, borrowed from English). The prefix omo- comes from Greek homos (same).
Examples
"Ha dichiarato di essere omosessuale."
Natural Translation
He declared that he is homosexual.
