oro

gold

noun OH-roh Common

Origin: from Latin aurum

Usage Note

Oro is the metal and, by extension, anything precious, as in cuore d'oro ('heart of gold') and non è tutto oro quel che luccica ('all that glitters is not gold'). It is normally uncountable, so it has no everyday plural.

Examples

"Questo anello è d'oro."
