Piovano is an attributive adjective meaning 'of rainwater' and appears almost exclusively in the set phrase acqua piovana (rainwater). It is not used as a predicate (la pioggia è piovana would be odd). The standalone noun for rain is pioggia. In some regional dialects piovano can also mean a parish priest, but in standard Italian this meaning is obsolete.
