piovente

roof slope

noun pyoh-VEN-teh Rare

Also means

pitch

Usage Note

Piovente is the sloping face of a pitched roof — the inclined surface that sheds rainwater, a synonym of falda. It derives from piovere (to rain). Do not confuse it with grondaia (gutter) or the pluviale (downpipe), which carry the water away; the piovente is the slope itself. The plural is pioventi.

Examples

"Il tetto ha due pioventi molto ripidi."

Natural Translation

The roof has two very steep slopes.
