Piuma refers to a soft down feather (as opposed to penna, a quill or writing pen). The phrase leggero come una piuma ('light as a feather') is a common simile. Piumino is a duvet or a down-filled jacket; piumaggio is a bird's full plumage. The plural is regular: le piume.
