prezzo

price

noun PRET-tsoh Common

Origin: Latin pretium (price, value)

Usage Note

Prezzo is the standard word for a monetary price — a che prezzo? (at what price?). The expression a buon prezzo means 'cheaply' or 'at a good price'. Note the double -zz- spelling, which produces the 'ts' sound: the word is pronounced PRET-tsoh, not 'PREH-tsoh'. The plural prezzi is regular.

Examples

"Il prezzo del biglietto è aumentato."

Natural Translation

The ticket price has gone up.
