qua

here

adverb kwah Rare

Origin: Latin qua (in which place, by which way)

Usage Note

Qua and qui are near-synonyms both meaning 'here', but there is a subtle distinction: qua tends to indicate a general area or direction ('come here', vieni qua), while qui more often pins a precise spot. In practice, especially in spoken Italian, the two are interchangeable. Qua e là ('here and there') is a common fixed phrase.

Examples

"Vieni qua, ho qualcosa da dirti."

Natural Translation

Come here, I have something to tell you.
