riavere

to get back, to recover

verb ryah-VEH-reh Rare

Also means

to regain

Usage Note

Riavere is conjugated irregularly like avere: rio, riai, ria, etc. (first-person riho in some forms). It takes avere as its auxiliary. The reflexive riaversi means 'to recover, to come round' after illness or shock — si è riavuto dopo il colpo (he came round after the blow).

Examples

"Spero di riavere le mie chiavi."

Natural Translation

I hope to get my keys back.
