scorrere
to flow; to scroll
verb SKOR-reh-reh Less Common
Origin: From Latin discurrere (to run about), simplified in Italian.
Also means
to pass (of time)
Usage Note
Scorrere takes essere when intransitive (water flows, time passes: il tempo scorre) and avere when transitive (to scroll through, to skim: ho scorso la lista). The transitive use is common in digital contexts — scorrere verso il basso (to scroll down). Do not confuse with correre (to run) — the s- prefix adds a sense of flowing or gliding motion.
Examples
"Il fiume scorre lentamente verso il mare."
Natural Translation
The river flows slowly toward the sea.
Literal Translation
The river flows slowly toward the sea.
