sogno

dream

noun SOH-nyoh Less Common

Origin: from Latin somnium

Usage Note

Sogno covers both the dreams you have asleep and your aspirations, plural sogni. The good-night wish sogni d'oro literally means 'golden dreams' (sweet dreams). The verb is sognare; don't confuse the noun with sonno, which means 'sleepiness'.

Examples

"Ho fatto un sogno strano."

Natural Translation

I had a strange dream.

I-have made a dream strange.
