Spento is the past participle of spegnere (to switch off / extinguish) used as an adjective. It describes a light, fire, or device that is off or extinguished (la luce è spenta), but also applies to a person who seems lifeless or lacking energy (aveva gli occhi spenti — her eyes were dull). The feminine form is spenta, plural spenti/spente.
