Usage Note
Spiacente is a polite, somewhat formal way to express regret: sono spiacente di informarla che... (I am sorry to inform you that...). It is more measured than mi dispiace and is common in business correspondence. The 'spi-' onset: 'sp' is always unaspirated in Italian; 'ia' is a glide: 'spyah'.
