Usage Note

Subnucleare is a technical physics adjective describing particles or phenomena that operate at a scale smaller than the atomic nucleus — i.e., quarks, gluons, and the forces that govern them. It is gender-invariable: una particella subnucleare (f) / un processo subnucleare (m). It is almost exclusively found in scientific texts and academic Italian, rarely in general conversation.
