to root for
Usage Note
Tifare is the standard verb for supporting a sports team, derived from tifo (the fervent support of fans). You pair it with per: tifo per la Juventus ('I support Juventus'). A tifoso is a fan. Do not confuse tifo (fan enthusiasm) with tifo meaning typhus — same spelling, different register and context.
Examples
"Tifo per l'Inter da sempre."
Natural Translation
I have always supported Inter.
Literal Translation
I-root-for for the-Inter from always.
