Usage Note

Trofeo refers to a physical trophy or cup awarded in competition (sollevare il trofeo = to lift the trophy) and, by extension, to a competition or tournament named after an award (Trofeo Coppi). In hunting it can mean a mounted animal head. The plural is trofei.
