vivente
living, alive
adjective vee-VEN-teh Less Common
Origin: Latin 'vivens,' present participle of 'vivere' (to live).
Usage Note
Vivente is the present-participial adjective from vivere; it is more formal or emphatic than vivo and often used in fixed phrases: il più grande vivente (the greatest living), lingua vivente (living language, as opposed to lingua morta). Essere vivente means a living being. Unlike vivo, it cannot describe a lively party or bright colour.
