Aggiornato is the past participle of aggiornare (to update) used attributively: software aggiornato (updated software), tenere qualcuno aggiornato (to keep someone informed). The double 'g' gives the 'dʒ' sound before -io-. In formal bureaucratic Italian aggiornarsi means to bring oneself up to date or to adjourn a meeting — a false-friend risk for English speakers who know French 'ajourner'.
